Infographic: How American Vacations Have Changed

The way we travel is constantly changing thanks to technological innovations, rising trends, and the forces of Mother Nature. Hell, I still remember the day when a camcorder was the ultimate travel accessory and you (or your mom, in my case) had to lug around a bag full of equipment to capture Kodak moments. Nowadays, of course, everyone has a digital phone capable of snapping a beautiful shot and sharing it with the world via Instagram. But while I can hardly fathom how American vacations have changed in the 23 years I’ve been taking them, this infographic via HomeAway.com shows just how different a vacay is today compared to fifty years ago:

Can you believe there was once a time when people were excited about an RV called a “Heli-Camper”? Okay, so it actually sounds pretty cool and I would have loved to get my hands on one had I been of legal driving age (or alive) in the late 70s… but besides that, the times they have a-changed!

What changes have you noticed in the ways Americans travel, and where they travel to? Let us know in the comments!

I love this infographic — totally cracked up when I saw the term “fake-cation”. I can (unfortunately) totally relate.
