Use WiFi Finder While Traveling & Never Go Offline

There are no set hours or offices in the life of a travel blogger, which is one of the many perks of the job. When you have to meet a deadline and you’re in the middle of a foreign city with no idea how to say “Internet cafe” in the local language, however, things can get a tad dicey. That’s why we’re glad to have discovered WiFi Finder, an iPhone app that locates WiFi signals around you and points you in the right direction to find them.

When we first heard about the app, we were confused: can’t you just turn on the WiFi on your phone and see a list of signals there? But then we realized it doesn’t tell you where the signals are coming from exactly, making that method a crap shoot. Silly us and our tiny brains.

According to reviews (and our brief time playing with it in WiFi-heavy Midtown Manhattan) the app does exactly what it promises: it finds WiFi. Nothing fancy, no gimmicks – unless you count filtering the results by free/paid service. Nowadays it seems like every app has some sort of bell and/or whistle that distracts you from its intended purpose, so this simplicity is refreshing and much appreciated.

If the search for free WiFi is a constant source of turmoil on your travels, you really have no excuse to not download WiFi Finder for your iPhone because it’s free. Unless you have some sort of finger disorder that prevents you from tapping the “Download Now” button on your phone, but if that’s the case you shouldn’t have an touchscreen phone in the first place. Seriously, who sold the smart phone to the dude with no fingers?

Woops, started on a tangent there. Our apologies. Download Wi-Fi Finder from the iTunes app store here.

  1. Thanks for sharing the info on the Wi-Fi finder app Steven! I’m in the process of downloading it to my phone right now, since it will really come in handy for my upcoming business trip. I used to waste a lot of data trying to do certain things, so I’m glad that will be a problem of the past soon; especially when it comes to using my favorite app DISH Remote Access. I use that app quite often now ever since one of the gals I work with at DISH got me a Sling Adapter. With that set up at home, I’m able to use the app to watch all of my favorite shows, live or from off my DVR, everywhere I go in the world with a 3G/4G or Wi-Fi connection. It really comes in handy for a TV lover like me, because I never have to miss any of my shows premiering at home just because I’m half way across the country!
