3 Best ABBA Videos In Honor Of Stockholm’s New ABBA Museum

You don’t understand how long I’ve been trying to incorporate ABBA into Travel Freak. Seeing as the band is as synonymous with Sweden as IKEA, you’d think I would have had plenty of opportunities to toss a “Fernando” reference into my ramblings about Scandinavia. But alas, none of my grand ABBA plans have ever come to fruition – until now.

The Swedish Music Hall of Fame opened its doors in Stockholm today, and inside there’s an entire separate museum devoted to ABBA’s cultural relevance in the 70s and today. Fans of the history-making group will not only get to experience the hits of Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn, and Anni-Frid, but get up-close and personal with the band’s classic costumes and record their own ABBA-inspired music videos.

You might be wondering why anyone would want to recreate a crappy clip from 40 years ago by the people who are responsible for Meryl Streep’s demise as a thespian in Mamma Mia!, which is understandable if you’ve never seen any ABBA music videos. But once you feast your eyes on the camp masterpieces these four Swedes released over the course of their decade-long career, you’ll get it. Hell, you might even be inspired to head to Stockholm and make one yourself.

So in honor of the grand opening of the ABBA Museum, I decided to run a small retrospective of the “best” ABBA videos and remind everyone while they deserve to be venerated. Behold, the glory of spandex pants and kaleidoscope camera filters:
