Miraflores Park, Lima (via)
We mentioned it briefly before, but now we’re ready to shout it from the rooftops to the dismay of our elderly Polish neighbors: we’re going to South America! Cruising down the western coast along Peru and Chile, to be specific. In exactly two weeks we’ll be boarding our first-ever cruise ship – the Regent Seven Seas Mariner – for a summertime jaunt below the Equator, followed by a short stay at The Singular luxury hotel in Western Patagonia. Escaping the gross New York City winter for a warm weather cruise and a few nights at the end of the world? Don’t mind if we do.
Check out our itinerary and try to contain your jealousy:
Jan. 20 - Depart New York City for Lima, Peru
Jan. 21 - Arrive in Lima, board ship in port town of Callao
Jan. 22 - Lima & Callao
Jan. 23 - Pisco, Peru
Jan. 24 - Matarani/Arequipa, Peru
Jan. 25 - Full day of cruising the Pacific Ocean
Jan. 26 - Antofagasta, Chile
Jan. 27 - Coquimbo, Chile
Jan. 28 - Depart from Valparaiso, Chile for Punta Arenas, Chile in Patagonia
Jan. 29 - Enjoy scenery & spa services at The Singular hotel in Puerto Bories, Chile
Jan. 30 - Leave Patagonia to catch a late flight home from Santiago, Chile
Jan. 31 - Arrive home bright and early, “ready” to head back to work from the airport.
As you can tell, it’s going to be a whirlwind tour. Usually we prefer to spend at least a few days in every destination, but that’s the nature of cruising it seems. What we’re most worried about are our four very long travel days to and from South America and between central Chile and Patagonia – getting to the Singular from Valparaiso is going to take us just around 9 hours by bus, plane, and car. Will our tiny connecting plane make it to its final destination? Will we careen into a mountainside in the Andes and be forced to resort to cannibalism to survive? We’ll see!
Have any of you been to one or more of these coastal destinations in Peru and Chile? Let us know! Next week we’ll elaborate more on the excursions we’ll be going on through Regent, but if you know of any can’t-miss sights we would love to add them to our itinerary!
